The 50th Festival La Rochelle Cinéma will celebrate a filmmaker-poet who left a lasting mark in the history of cinema and whose modernity continues to inspire the directors of today: Pier Paolo Pasolini, whose 100th birth anniversary falls on March 5, 2022.
For this centennial, we will present, from July 1 to 10, not only a full retrospective of his works (short and feature-length films), but also films on which he collaborated (Cecilia Mangini, Luciano Emmer) or which are dedicated to him, fictions, short subjects, and animated films by Abel Ferrara, Marco Tullio Giordana, Gianluigi Toccafondo, and Andrei Ujica.
As poet, screenwriter, and director, Pier Paolo Pasolini created a politically engaged body of work that remains among the most fascinating of the second half of the 20th century. His films are constantly studied and deconstructed; his writings are ever more discussed, analyzed, and translated in additional countries.
Fema gives you the opportunity to see his films on the big screen once again, with a “Parcours Pasolini” (Journey through Pasolini’s works) in which every day a specialist will introduce and then analyze one of his masterpieces.
In collaboration with Carlotta Films which proposes the PASOLINI 100 YEARS event, in theaters and in restored versions, from July 6 with Accatone and Mamma Roma, and then on July 20 with 5 films: The Gospel According to St. Matthew, Hawks and Sparrows, Oedipus Rex, Medea, Love Meetings.
Retrospective in partnership with the Institut culturel italien, and in collaboration with the Cineteca di Bologna, Centro Studi – Archivio Pier Paolo Pasolini, Il Cinema ritrovato, Bergamo Film Meeting, Riga International Film Festival, La Cinémathèque du documentaire, Les Films du Camélia, Tamasa, Park Circus, ADRC, Afcae, and L’Avant-Scène Cinéma.
